12-yr-old set to be a Jain monk; son of diamond merchant

He would be expected even not to have emotional attachments

A Jain boy aged 12-years is headed to become monk as per traditions of his religion.

The boy hails from Surat and would give up all facilities of a householder life.

He would be expected even not to have emotional attachments to other people, places or things.

Interestingly, the boy’s family firmly backs his decision and are in a celebratory mood.

The boy Bhavya Shah is ecstatic at the life ahead.

He said that while he would cut off all relations even from his parents at this young age, he hoped that even his parents would adopt the same lifestyle one day.

In Jain faith, diksha is a ritual of renunciation or initiation and Bhavya will take diksha in the presence of around 400-450 Jain monks and around 7000 people.

The boy’s father Dipesh Shah is a diamond merchant noted that his elder child, a daughter also adopted the life of monkhood couple of years back.

Jain monks vow to give up not just material possessions but also all passions or emotions that cause karma.
