14 Maoists killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh forest

16 weapons recovered from the encounter site


Fourteen Maoist rebels were killed in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh in an encounter with security forces on Monday morning, said police.

DM Awasthi, special director general of police (anti-naxal operations), said 16 weapons were recovered from the encounter site in Nulka Tong forest between Golapalli and Konta police station.

Personnel of the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force and Central Reserve Police Force were combing the area after getting a intelligence report that 200 Maoist had gathered for a meeting.

Superintendent of Police Abhshek Meena claimed that it was a big success for security forces. theencounter was going on at the time of writing this news and details were awaited.

Meena said that a police search team had started on a combing operation on a specific input of Maoists converging in large numbers in the nearby areas. On the way, It met with a group of Maoists.

Meena said that Naxalites had started marking ‘Shaheed week’ since July 28th. Increased Maoist activities were being reported in the area since then.Police had launched special operations to nab as many naxalites as it could. This endeavour brought the police party and naxalites face to face at about 7 in the morning today and an exchange of fire ensued almost immediately.

After a 40 minnutes’ encounter, police have recovered 14 deadbodies purportedly belonging to maoist rebels.
