17 large states witness decline in Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB); NITI Aayog expresses concern
In a major concern for India, the sex ratio at birth (SRB) saw a decline in 17 out of 21 large states of the country.
Even the state of Gujarat, which is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw an alarming dip of 53 points.
The statistics was confirmed in a report released by the Niti Aayog.
Post the release of the report, it was stressed that the sex-selective abortion needs to be prevented by all means.
The state of Gujarat is followed by Haryana, which registered a drop of 35 points.
The other states not doing good on these fronts include Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.
The report has been aptly titled ‘Healthy States, Progressive India’.
According to the report, improvement in SRB was witnessed in Punjab followed by Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.>
