Sridevi begins on her final journey; long queues of people seen to pay respects

The final journey of the veteran Bollywood actor Sridevi began in Mumbai amid top and other film personalities besides thousands of teary-eyed fans carrying flowers and chanting prayers arrived at Mumbai’s Celebration Sports Club.

The actor had died in Dubai on Saturday.

ridevi’s body, draped in a magenta and gold Kanjeevaram saree and flowers, has been placed in a transparent casket at the club.

She will be taken to the posh Lokhandwala complex. The

funeral will be held at 3.30 pm at the Pawan Hans crematorium

in Ville Parle.

The 54-yr-old actor died in a hotel room after which the forensic report said she accidentally drowned in a bathtub after falling unconscious.

Sridevi’s body was brought to the Celebration Sports Club in Mumbai.

The actress had the rare privilege of acting in movies of many languages.

Sridevi’s family requested people in a statement to join them to pay respects to the “remarkable actor, beloved wife and loving mother” at the club from 9.30 onwards today.

Nearly 200 policemen have been posted at the Mumbai club and a police band has been deployed in honour of Sridevi, who received the Padma Shri award in 2013.
