With two of three states clearly gone to the BJP, the Congress does not want to jeopardize its chances of having a government in Mehgalaya.
It is part of this exercise that the Congress leaders held late night meeting with the Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad.
They staked their claim of forming a government in the state.
It need be mentioned that Congress is the single largest party in Meghalaya and thus must be invited to form the government, was the view of the most of the Congress leaders in meeting with the Governor.
Congress leaders CP Joshi and Vincent Pala were said to have met the Governor.
Meanwhile, Congress veteran Ahmed Patel and Kamal Nath have been flown in from Delhi to ensure there’s no repeat of Manipur and Goa this time.
Another senior Party leader Mukul Wasnik was also present in Shillong.
It is here that they interacted with the local leadership, other parties and Independents.
The Congress was in power in Meghalaya for five years and it hoped to get a majority this time too, which did not happen.
Meghalaya is one of the five states currently held by the Congress.
