5 including a juvenile arrested planning dacoity in Urla

Raipur: In an exemplary act of pro-active policing, Urla police on Thursday thwarted a major crime in the capital by arresting five persons, including a juvenile, while they were roaming around Singhania Chowk locality looking for a target to commit dacoity.

According to details shared by capital police later in the day, Urla police station received a tip off early on Thursday that five armed youths in two bikes are roaming in and around Singhania Chowk area in a highly suspicious manner and their intentions seems to be very dangerous. Following the input, information was immediately passed to Raipur DIG & SSP Dr Ajay Yadav who then directed his subordinates to immediately coordinate a raid and nab all suspects redhanded.

Acting on his directives, several police parties from couple of police stations were rushed to assistance of Urla police and the entire area around Singhania Chowk was surrounded. Noticing police teams circling around them, all five suspects desperately tried to flee from there but police teams were alert and all of them were taken into custody and their bikes were seized. An on the spot frisking led to recovery of a country- made pistol and three live cartridges, four sharp-edged weapons, four mobile phones and few tablets of psychotropic drugs.

All five were then brought to police station where they were identified as Ajay Sahu, Milan Nishad, Tulendra Sahu, Rakesh Yadav and a juvenile, all residents of various localities in Urla. It was further revealed that Ajay Sahu, who is a listed criminal and had been jailed couple of times in the past including for an attempt to murder, had planned a major dacoity in the region with his accomplices. Following this revelation, police have now registered an offence under Section 399, 400 IPC and Section 25 of Arms Act against all five and is now interrogating them further about the source of procuring the firearms.
