As many as 630 flights were cancelled one day one of resumption of domestic services. On Monday the Ministry of Civil Aviation resumed domestic flights services in the country after a long gap of two months owing to coronavirus pandemic.
The cancellation took place because of restrictions imposed by various states including airports in Mumbai and Chennai. Mumbai had decided to handle only 50 flights from Monday, Chennai 25 and Hyderabad 30.
Notably, bookings had opened for 1,100 domestic flights for Monday on May 22 last. Later on Monday evening, union minister for civil aviation Hardeep Puri tweeted saying, 532 flights carrying 39,231 passengers flew on the first day of resumption.
“Action has returned to Indian skies”, he said in a tweet. A lot of passengers across several airports have complained that their flights have been cancelled without prior notice, according to reports.
