69 th Republic Day made special; these were the highlights

It was the presence of 10 ASEAN heads of states that as Chief Guests that made this Republic Day special.

The celebrations of the 69th Republic Day took place on Rajpath in New Delhi on Friday.

The event took place amidst extraordinary security cover keeping the mind the number of chief guests present at the venue.

As is customary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tributes to the jawans and bravehearts by laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti in the presence of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the three service chiefs.

As always, Modi was noticed because of his dressing sense for the occasion. He was wearing saffron, red and green-coloured safa, reached the Rajpath and received and greeted President Ram Nath Kovind and the chief guests from the 10 ASEAN nations.

This year was also special in terms of twenty-three tableaux, including those representing various states, ministries and government departments rolling down Rajpath.

Sources informed that the Doordarshan installed 38 cameras for the coverage of the celebrations and it is for the first time that six cameras have been deployed for coverage beyond India Gate.

This year was memorable also because of a motorcycle contingent of women personnel of the BSF showcasing their skills for the first time at the parade.

The 27-member BSF women ‘daredevils’ squad, named ‘Seema Bhavani’, performed stunts and acrobatics on their 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles.
