A five-day ‘CNC Machining Techniques’ training programme at OP Jindal University

Raigarh : Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is a versatile system which allows to control motion of tools and parts through computer programmes that use numeric data. The CNC Machining Program prepares students for a high-demand, entry-level position as a CNC machine operator or general machinist. Keeping in view the importance of CNC machining techniques, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering and Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Raipur, are jointly organizing a Training Programme (Certificate Course) on “CNC Machining Techniques” from 12 to 16 September 2018 at OP Jindal University.

During inauguration of the training program on 12th September, Dr Siddharth S. Chakrabarti, HOD-Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the guest and participants. Underlining the importance of CNC machining, he asked the participants to learn the basic skills of CNC Programming which is useful in product development; and will make them ready for manufacturing plants. He said that CNC machines will be the heart of “University makers space”, which will be used by students for their innovative projects. Inaugurating the Training Programme, Dr R. D. Patidar, Registrar, OPJU urged the participants to keep themselves updated with the latest technologies and explained the need of having an additional skill set along with technical knowledge for a better career.

Congratulating the organisers of the training programme, he said that these types of events will fill the education-training gap and make the students industry ready. Dr P S Bokare, Dean, School of Engineering motivated the participants and said that 21st century is the century of innovations and technologies; and emphasized on the importance of skill development courses in Engineering curriculum. Mr S P Tiwari, CIPET Raipur informed about the objectives and contents of training program, and discussed the importance of learning CNC Programming Techniques.
The training sessions will be conducted by Mr Y. Hidayathullah and Mr Shrineewas Rao, CIPET Raipur and they will cover the topics – Introduction to CAD/CAM, CNC Technology, CNC programming Techniques on CNC Lathe, CNC Milling & Sample Programming on Fanuc Control.

Hands-on-training on these topics will help the participants in understanding the functioning of the entire CNC system. During the workshop, a demo on CNC Lathe and CNC Milling at the central workshop, OPJU, and a simulation software for the Part Programming in the CAD/ CAM laboratory of the university will be done by the resource persons. At the end of inaugural function, Prof. Mukesh Desai, coordinator of the Training Programme thanked all the guests, students and faculty members for their co-operation and active participation in the programme.
