The saffron brigade had reasons to be jubilant as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) swept the student union elections at the University of Hyderabad.
It is for the first time in eight years that the ABVP bagged all six posts of office-bearers.
The students’ wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh fought the polls in an alliance with the Other Backward Classes Federation (OBCF) and the Sevalal Vidhyarthi Dal (SVD).
With this alliance in place, the contest was three-cornered with the Students’ Federation of India, the
student wing of the Communist Party of India, and United Democratic Alliance contesting separately.
ABVP candidate Aarti Nagpal has been elected as the president of the University of Hyderabad Students’ Union.
Likewise, the posts of vice-president, general secretary, joint secretary, cultural secretary and sports secretary were won by Amit Kumar, Dheeraj Sangoji, Praveen Chowhan, Arvind Kartha and Nikhil Raj, respectively, all belonging to the ABVP alliance.>
