Accident involved illegal sand miner’s tractor


A road mishap, involving a tractor, laden with illegally mined sand, claimed Twelve precious lives. This tractor rammed into a Bolero SUV while on its way to Ambah town in the district.

Illegal sand mining in this MP district of Morena wrote a fateful story on Thursday morning that left 12 people dead and 8 grievously injured.

The road mishap occurred at Ganj Rampur village. The sand-laden tractor-trolley hit an overloaded jeep carrying nearly 20 people of a family around 6 am at a cross road.

The identities of the deceased, most of whom belonged to a family in Gwalior, were yet to be disclosed. However, police claimed that twelve members of a family, on their way to a condolence meet, were among those killed.

The tractor driver also suffered injuries in the accident. He fled the spot after the accident, Morena superintendent of police Amit Sanghvi said. A case was registered against him, he said, adding that a probe was on into the incident.

The SP said they were still in the process of retrieving all the bodies from the crushed jeep. “The death toll may go up. We are trying to identify the owner of the tractor,” he added.

The Bolero was a taxi plying between Morena and Gwalior.
