In a tragic development, the well known activist GD Agarwal passed away as he was on an indefinite fast.
It need be recalled that Agarwal was on an indefinite fast since June 22 and was urging the government to clean river Ganga.
The activist breathed his last at the AIIMS hospital in Rishikesh at the age of 87 yrs.
Preliminary reports suggest that the activist may have died of a heart attack.
He was shifted to AIIMS yesterday after being on fast for 109 days.
It is said that the ‘Clean Ganga’ activist was only consuming water mixed with honey during his fast.
It was two days ago, as per local sources, that he had also given up water.
GD Agarwal was once a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology of Kanpur.
He had on earlier occasions too held fasts over the state of the Ganga.
