With spurt in incidents of vandalism of statues and all the more inflammatory commentary ongoing in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come out condemning these incidents.

It need be recalled that the statue vandalism series began with downing of a Lenin statue in Tripura amid speculations that it was BJP workers who stood there watching.

However, it was on Wednesday that the PM Modi talked to Home Minister Rajnath Singh to express strong disapproval over the incidents.

There after the Union Home Ministry issued directives to the states to take strong action agaisnt such elements.

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, a day after two men were detained in Vellore for allegedly vandalising a Periyar statue.

Situation got so much out of hand that even petrol bombs were hurled at a BJP office this morning by miscreants in Coimbatore even though none were reported injured.

In Kolkata, six people were arrested this morning after a bust of Jana Sangh leader Syama Prasad Mookerjee was found ‘blackened’ in the south of the city.
