After he took over as new US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo is said to be gotten involved in NATO diplomacy to be able to pacify allies and prepare a counter to the Russia.
This is being seen as an effective counter to the Russian interference on its periphery and elsewhere.
On his first overseas trip as America’s top diplomat, Pompeo hit the ground running with a series of meetings at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
The US is facing challenges as it is in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine.
Pompeo’s aim is to ensure that NATO maintains a unified position of “no business as usual” with Russia.
This is aimed at Russia being forced to implements an agreement to end violence in eastern Ukraine and halt destabilising actions elsewhere.
Among the worst allegations that Russia faces now includes poisoning of an ex-Russian spy in Britain last month and support for Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government.>
