Ahead of election, protests break out in Congress for Arang seat

Congress workers were opposed to fielding of Shiv Daharia from Arang assembly segment.

As the ticket allocation for Chhattisgarh election heats up, discontent is also growing in certain segments of state.

It is in this context that certain Congress supporters turned up to protest at the Raipur Airport as party’s Incharge for state PL Punia arrived in state capital.

The Congress workers were opposed to fielding of Shiv Daharia from Arang assembly segment.

They said that while Congress chief Rahul Gandhi promised that ‘parachute’ candidates will not be allowed this time around in state polls, this is exactly what is happening in case of Arang.

The Congress workers raised slogans in front of PL Punia and opposed Shiv Daharia as candidate from that area.

They demanded that those serving the party since years must be given chance in form of ticket.

The party workers had placards on and were raising slogans.

The Congress sources said that Narayan Kurrey, Piyush Kosre and Vedram Manhar are being proposed as candidates from Arang on Congress ticket.

But Punia later said that party workers do have the right to putforth their views.

He also took potshots at the former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi deciding to not contest from any seat across Chhattisgarh.

He said that Jogi’s opposition to CM Raman was farce and that people understand these tactics.
