After the Maharashtra assembly passed the Maratha quota bill, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced moving to the High Court for reinstatement of quota for Muslims.
This is as per the earlier government of Congress-NCP that had provided a five per cent quota to Muslims.
AIMIM leaders said that the same yardstick should be applied to the Muslims as well.
The BJP-led government introduced a bill providing quota for the Marathas on the basis of a report of the State Backward Class Commission (SBCC).
The earlier Congress-NCP government, led by Prithviraj Chavan, had provided reservation to both Marathas and Muslims before the 2014 Assembly polls.>
