Air India flies over Saudi airspace to land in Tel Aviv airport; beginning of new era

Saudi airspace angle is being seen as signs of thaw between Israel and Saudi Arabia

It was a historic landing in Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv when Air India plane touched down after overflight of the Saudi airspace.

It need be mentioned that Air India launched its first flight to Israel to be allowed to cross Saudi airspace.

The Saudi airspace angle is being seen as signs of thaw between Israel and Saudi Arabia even as the latter does not recognize the former officially.

Flight AI 139 landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport about 30 minutes after its scheduled arrival time of 1:15am IST.

The flight in Tel Aviv was welcomed by Israeli transport minister Yisrael Katz who said that it is a historic moment as the Boeing Dreamliner rolled to a halt.

Israel’s national carrier El Al currently operates an India service to Mumbai that takes a detour over the Red Sea to avoid flying over Saudi Arabia and Iran.
