Apple, enlisted multiple Emmy winner Alfre Woodard for its upcoming sci-fi series See.
Woodard will star opposite Aquaman’s Jason Momoa in the drama from Peaky Blinders and Taboo creator Steven Knight. Her character, Paris, is a “priestess and adviser.”
Apple is keeping most details about See under a lid, saying only that the show will be an “epic, world-building drama set in the future.”
Oscar nominee Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) is writing See, and Francis Lawrence (Red Sparrow) is attached to direct. Both will serve as executive producers alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kristen Campo and Jon Steinberg. The show comes from Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.
Woodard has four Emmy wins and 17 nominations to her name; she was most recently nominated in 2013 for Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias remake. Other recent credits include Captain America: Civil War, and guest arcs on Empire and Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Woodard is repped by ICM Partners, Circle of Confusion and Gochman Law Group.
See is the latest addition to a burgeoning scripted slate Apple as it pushes into original content: The tech company has more than a dozen scripted series in development and has made content deals with Oprah Winfrey, Bates Motel producer Kerry Ehrin and Sesame Workshop.>
