Amid development vs environment debate; Prime Minister commits to environ protection
Amid concerns that government’s fast paced development agenda might clash with the environment issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said India believes in growth but was committed to protecting the environment.
He was addressing over 200 delegates at the World Sustainable Development Summit.
The Prime Minister said that that respect for nature was part of the country’s culture.
He reiterated that India considers earth as mother figure.
Invoking Mahatma Gandhi, Modi said that while resources and wealth belongs to nature, the humans are mere managers of this wealth.
The prime minister also raised concerns about the issue of water availability and asserted his commitment to ensure that no farm goes without water.
