Amid high security, court pronounces sentence for Ram Rahim

Amid high security, the self-styled ‘godman’ Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has now been sentenced to life in prison.

The latest sentence is for the murder of a journalist back in year 2002.

But a court in Haryana’s Panchkula also convicted three others in the case along with Ram Rahim.

The administration had made elaborate security arrangements in Panchkula and Sirsa, also the headquarters of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect headed by Ram Rahim, to avert any violence incidents.

The state government had said the movement of the Dera chief could lead to a law and order situation.

The 51-year-old Sirsa-based sect head is currently serving a 20-year-prison term in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for raping two of his women followers.

The three other convicts — Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal — are lodged in Ambala jail.
