Amid snowfall, Himachal govt working to restore electricity and water supply soon enough

A spokesperson of the State government said that government was focusing to restore the electricity, water supply and roads at the earliest & Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue & Public Works) Manish Nanda was monitoring the situation on the direction of Chief Minister.

State/District Level Emergency Operation Centers are on high alert.

He said that fresh rain and snowfall has occurred in the Districts of Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul & Spiti, Sirmour, Kangra, Solan and Chamba. As per Public Works Department (PWD), 598 roads were closed in the state, out of which 93 roads will be cleared by today whereas, 139 roads will be opened by 26 January, 2019 and remaining 366 roads will be opened shortly.

Rs. 62.45 Crore loss has been assessed by PWD, which may increase after final assessment of loss and damage to the roads. 285 machines has been deployed for restoration of the roads.

Spokesperson said that as per Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB), out of 3276 affected DTRs, 1735 have been restored and remaining 1085 DTRs will be restored soon.

The South Zone has been severely affected during this snowfall. 362 water supply schemes of Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) has been affected by this snowfall, more than Rs. 6.86 crore total loss has been assessed.

However, the loss may rise as some of the areas are still inaccessible. 234 schemes have been restored and restoration of remaining schemes will be done within next two days.
