Amit Shah BJP President will meet JD(U) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over breakfast and then over dinner during his visit to Patna on Thursday.
Amid reports of fissures appearing between the coalition partners, it is widely expected that the two are likely to discuss the seat-sharing for the 2019 general elections.
The meeting is significant in the backdrop of JD(U) reaffirming ties and quashing rumours of cracks in their coalition. This is Shah’s first visit to Bihar after JD(U) rejoined the NDA in 2017.
However, time and again, JD(U) spokesmen have asserted that it is the “elder brother” in the coalition should get the maximum share of 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
According to a statement issued by BJP, Shah will arrive in Patna at 10 AM. From the airport, he will proceed to the state guest house where he will “have breakfast with Nitish Kumar and other senior leaders. After hectic day-long activities, Shah will have dinner at the chief minister’s official residence,” the release said.
The two leaders are likely to address the issue of seat-sharing among NDA partners for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The seat sharing issue has become thorny after JD(U) returned to the NDA fold in 2017. NDA won 31 seats in Bihar with BJP, LJP and RLSP securing 22, 6 and 3 seats respectively.
Other senior leaders likely to be present at the talks include Bihar’s Deputy Chief Sushil Kumar Modi, BJP’s national general secretary in-charge for Bihar Bhupendra Yadav and union ministers from the state including Ravi Shankar Prasad.
