After Ludhiana, it is now Uttar Pradesh where a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker was on Saturday shot dead allegedly by bike-borne men in Ghazipur. Similar incident had also occurred in Punjab where the probe is now being carried out by National Investigation Agency. The victim’s brother too suffered a bullet injury while trying to save him. Rajesh Mishra also worked as a stringer for the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran. No arrests have been made yet.
Three armed assailants attacked the RSS worker this morning when he and his brother were sitting in their building material shop in Brahmanpura Chatti area, circle officer Hridayanad Singh said. Police said Rajesh was shot in his head. When his brother Amitesh Mishra, 35, intervened, he was shot in the abdomen, police said. The brothers were taken to the local government hospital by locals, where Rajesh was declared brought dead, while Amitesh was referred to Varanasi for treatment. Locals, angry that the police did not reach the spot on time, vandalised nearby properties. A senior Uttar Pradesh police officer said that two of the attackers have been identified. “Of the three assailants, two have been identified, and soon all of of them will be arrested,” ADG Law and Order Anand Kumar said in Lucknow.
