Leander Paes and his Canadian partner Adil Shamashdin have crashed out of the men’s doubles event of the Antalya Open tennis tournament. In their semi-final at Antalya, Turkey, today, the Indo-Canadian pair lost to the combination of Oliver Marach of Austria and Mate Pavic of Croatia in straight sets 4-6, 4-6.
Earlier, India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan had also bowed out of the men’s singles in the ATP Antalya tournament. In the quarter-finals today, he lost against veteran Marcos Baghdatis in three sets 7-6, 3-6, 6-7 in a match that lasted two hour and 43 minutes.
It was another great show from the Indian player after his shock win over world No. 8 Dominic Thiem. In the end, it was the experience of Baghdatis, a former world No 8 and Australian Open finalist, which helped him prevail over the world No 222.
