The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has informed that a complaint has been published in the news papers regarding depositing of reserve EVMs of Assembly constituency no. 36 Khurai late in the strong room.
In context to the complaint, the status has been clarified by the Collector Sagar that the reserve machines 26 CU, 48 BU and 44 VVPAT had been kept by the Returning Officer of the 36-Khurai Assembly Constituency at Police Station Khurai, Malthone and Bandri on November 27, 2018
and as the need did not arise for their use and after the end of the voting, these unutilized machines were supposed to be deposited by the assistant returning officer (Naib Tehsildar, Khurai) in the strong room of the reserve machines made in the headquarters on November 29, 2018
but the above mentioned machines were brought by him late to the headquarters on November 30, 2018 resulted in objection raised by various political parties in connection to the reserve EVM.
Upon reaching the spot, the Collector Sagar tallied the all the reserve machines in front of all the contestants and prepared panchnama and got the video made.
The Congress and others have expressed satisfaction and the machines were kept secured in the treasury after tallying the machines with the list of the reserve machines in the presence of the candidates.
The machines were not tampered with and the Naib Tahsildar Shri Rajesh Mehra held accountable for depositing the machines late has been suspended.
The EVMs and VVPAT machines used in the voting are secured in the separate strong room made for them.>
