After kidney treatment, the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday took oath as a Rajya Sabha member.
He would serve the upper house of the Parliament for a new six-year term.
Though he was re-elected to the House from Uttar Pradesh on April 3, Jaitley was unable to take oath during the recently-concluded budget session of Parliament.
While his ill health had been making rounds at the time, it later emerged that he was suffering from kidney ailment.
He was administered oath in a special ceremony by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu this morning at the latter’s Chambers in Parliament in New Delhi.
Following his re-election to the Upper House, Jaitley was appointed Leader of the Rajya Sabha.
Earlier this month, the senior BJP leader underwent dialysis at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital.
He was discharged last week.and may have to go for a transplant.
He underwent heart surgery several years ago.>
