Arunachal Pradesh: SEC announces elections for Panchayat & urban local bodies in state

Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) today announced the elections for the Panchayat and urban local bodies in the state.

Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) today announced the elections for the Panchayat and urban local bodies in the state. The SEC has informed that the date of notification will be on November 24. The last date of filing nomination will be on December 2 next month and the last date of withdrawal of nomination will be on December 7.

The date of polling is on December 22 and counting of votes will be on December 26. The elections for the Panchayati Raj institutions and Municipal bodies of Itanagar and Pasighat will be held in a single phase. With the announcement of the election process Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the state from today.

There are 25 Zilla Parishads with 241 ZPC, 2215 GP with 8436 GPG in the State. There are two Municipal bodies namely Itanagar Municipal Corporation & Pasighat Municipality. There are 20 Municipal Wards in Itanagar and 8 Municipal Wards in Pasighat.

The total electorate for both PRI & Municipal bodies is 739254. As many as 2175 polling stations have been set up. EVMs will be used for Municipal bodies whereas Ballot boxes are being used for PRI elections.

This will be the first general election after the conversion from three tier Panchayat to two tier system in the State. For the first time in the history of Panchayat election the State Election Commission will deploy 27 Election Observers from among the senior officers who will function as the eyes and ears of the State Election Commission.
