In a major mishap, as many as seven elephants died after coming in contact with a sagging electric wire in Odisha’s Dhenkanal.

It is being said by the wildlife activists that this is the highest casualty of elephants in a single incident in Odisha.

It was informed that a herd of 13 elephants was passing through the village in Sadar Forest Range and seven of them came in contact with an 11-KV line.

This was also confirmed by local officials.

The local officials said that those dead includes a tusker and five female elephants.

With the rising number of elephant deaths on Railway tracks, the department has now come up with a plan where in devices are being installed near tracks to emit sound of bees and thus prevent tuskers from approaching the tracks.
