Boxing: Amit Wins Gold!

Amit Panghal defeats Rio Olympics gold medallist Hasanboy Dusmatov 3-2 to win the gold in the Men’s Light Fly 49kg category.

Going into the match, Uzbekistan’s Hasanboy Dusmatov was favourite to win. But right from the beginning of the bout, Amit matched up to his opponent, a 2017 World Championships silver medallist.

Earlier this year, 22-year-old Amit had bagged a silver at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The Armyman from Haryana also won gold at the prestigious Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria this year.

Bridge: Gold in Men’s Pair

Pranab Bardhan and Shibhnath Sarkar clinch gold in Bridge men’s Pair event. The Indian duo finished first in the Final with a total of 384.00.

This is India’s 15 gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

There were two other Indian teams competing in the same event. Sumit Mukherjee and Debabrata Majumder finish 9th with a score of 333 while the duo of Subhash Gupta and Sapan Desai stand 12th and last.

This is the first time that Bridge has been included at the Asian Games, and India was represented by a 24-member contingent. India has already bagged two bronze medals, in the men’s and mixed team events.
