In a shocking case that has been reported in certain sections of the media, a 12-year-old girl in Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha district had to undergo ‘getting tonsured’ for purification purposes after she was sexually assaulted.
The village head is said to have also ordered the same for her family apart from throwing a feast for rurals with meat and drinks included.
The girl’s assaulter was however, let off with a meager fine imposed.
According to sources, it was on January 21 that the girl and her mother were working at a house construction site under a central scheme when a man, identified as Arjun Yadav sexually assaulted the girl and fled.
Police confirms that after the incident, the villagers convened a meeting wherein the attacker was pronounced guilty and let off with a fine.
The village heads later on February 4 convened another meeting wherein the girl was ordered to take a bath and shave her head.
The family was then asked to organize a grand feast of meat and alcohol for community members as part of purification ritual of the girl.
