AIR Correspondent reports, known for high quality tea and tourism, the hill city of Darjeeling has witnessed a high pitch election campaign ahead of the 5th phase of polls.

A total of 9 candidates would try their political luck from Darjeeling assembly seat.

The BJP has fielded sitting legislator Niraj Zimba . CPI-M candidate Gautam Raj Rai is contesting for the Sonjukta Morcha or United Front.

The ruling TMC has not given ticket to any candidate but extended support to the Bimal Gurung faction of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.

2 lakh 41 thousand voters could exercise their voting rights in this seat. The BJP has made several promises to voters at Darjeeling including permanent political solution to the problems of the Gorkha community.

ST status to 11 Gorkha communities, development of tea workers are some of the other promises made by various candidates.
