The stats have been put out by the election watchdog, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

With most focus on the elections in states from central India, it has now emerged that more than half of the 209 candidates contesting the November 28 Mizoram Assembly polls are multimillionaires.

But what is of concern is that at least nine of the nominees face criminal cases.

The stats have been put out by the election watchdog, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

As per the ADR report, a total of 116 candidates are multimillionaires.

The list includes the Mizo National Front (MNF) leads the list with 35, followed by the Congress with 33 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 17 such candidates.

It is also noteworthy that 142 candidates are graduates or above while 60 are school dropouts and one an illiterate.

Elections to the 40-member Assembly will be held on November 28.
