ATS now roped in to probe threats to UP lawmakers; on direction of CM Adityanath

The directive from Adityanath is that those behind such threats to lawmakers in UP must be nabbed at the earliest

The issue of death threats to the MLAs in Uttar Pradesh has now been given to the Anti Terrorist Squads and Special Task Force of the state.

It is now said that Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the police to act speedily in the case.

The directive from Adityanath is that those behind such threats to lawmakers in UP must be nabbed at the earliest.

Sources informed that a SIT has been set up in the case constituted under the special task force inspector general and includes the additional superintendent of police of the anti-terrorist squad.

So far, 14 BJP MLAs and two others have received nearly identical threats and Adityanath has asked the officers to ensure that those sending such messages are brought to book.

The threats were issued in the name of a gangster who once worked with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, the police said.

Senior leaders in the government said the police had already gathered preliminary details on the issue.
