Australian Open: Roger Federer retains his Men’s Singles title

In Tennis, World Number Two Roger Federer has retained his Men’s Singles title at the Australian Open. In the summit clash in Melbourne on Sunday, he defeated sixth seed Marin Cilic of Croatia in five sets 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

His sixth Australian Open Crown brought the Swiss star to the elite group of Margaret Court, Serena Williams and Steffi Graf, the only players to have won 20 or more Grand Slam singles titles.

After the stupendous achievement, the 36-year old veteran broke down in tears and said at the presentation:

For the first time, the final was played under a closed roof due to hot weather conditions.

Meanwhile, India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Hungarian partner Timea Babos lost their Mixed Doubles final to the Croatian-Canadian team of Mate Pavic and Gabriela Dabrowski in a closely fought match 6-2, 4-6, 9-11.
