Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today,saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi “inspires” her with his hard work for the country.
She joined BJP in the presence of party’s National General Secretary Arun Singh. Saina’s elder sister Abu Chandranshu Nehwal also joined BJP today.
The former world number 1 was inducted into the BJP ahead of the crucial Delhi Assembly elections.
Born in Haryana,Saina Nehwal is one of India’s most successful sportsperson.
The popular badminton star has been honoured with awards like the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Award.
Last week Saina Nehwal suffered a second consecutive opening round defeat as she went down to Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark to bring curtains on the country’s campaign in the Thailand Masters badminton tournament.
Last year,a number of sports persons including cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Babita Phogat had joined BJP.
