With state poll nearing, politics in Chhattisgarh is also heating up.
The Chhattisgarh Congress President Bhupesh Baghel has taken potshots at the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chhattisgarh.
Baghel has now written an open letter to the Prime Minister and said that the state government is facing allegations of tendupatta scam.
Baghel highlighted the fact that Prime Minister himself bowed down before a aged woman to have her wear slippers.
Baghel said that the pair of slippers surely must not have come on Air India plane with the Prime Minister Modi and neither was it bought by PM Modi himself.
He said that the slippers were bought from the corpus of ‘Charan Paduka Yojana’ where in the tendupatta collectors are given slippers to enable them venture into forested areas safely.
Baghel went on to say that the Charan Paduka Yojana is funded by money from the sale/auction of tendupatta leaves.
This implies that the slippers worn by the particular aged woman on dias with the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister is bought from her own labour.
He alleged that in wake of these facts, what is the justification of retuning people’s own money to them in a way that smacks of royalty handing it out to his masses.
He termed it as derogatory for the democracy.
He grilled the government to explain why less tendupatta auction was done at much lower prices because it ultimately hurts the scheme and its beneficiaries.
Baghel goes on to add that the state government would do best if it can provide the tendupatta collectors with the best price so that they can buy a pair of slippers themselves.
