Better security arrangements ensure peaceful polling:CEO

Chitrakot: The by-poll in Chitrakot Vidhan Sabha (VS) were held peacefully and in Katabaas village of Lohandiguda Block, the Indravati River was on rise and the tribal people having faith on democracy, crossed the river sitting on the boat and exercised their franchise at the polling centre. In case of complaint in EVM and VVPAT machine due to some technical snag in some polling centres, the same were replaced immediately and in this 1 ballot unit, 2 control unit and 5 VVPAT machines were replaced.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) State Election office Subrat Sahoo addressing a press conference here informed that the challenges faced in the by-poll did not act as hindrance in ensuring smooth by-poll in Chitrakote VS. The voters from the region crossing the hills, flooded nullahs, and walking long distance on foot reached upto polling centre and exercised their franchise and in this both women and at many place even senior citizens came to exercise their vote. In this the sensitive Polling Centre No. 05 was shifted elsewhere.


So with peaceful polling in naxal infested area, clearly indicates that the denizens were not having any fear of naxals and their call to boycott the polls. CEO informed that a total of 31 Companies of para-military forces were deputed in the region and in addition to this additional state police force was also depoloyed. The voters started going to polling booth since 8:00 am onwards and full secuirty was provided in and around the polling centres. The police also used best of the securiuty arrangement through Drone cameras to monitor any naxal movement and kept strict vigil at sensitive polling centres.

In the by-poll today, an 80 year old womn Rambatti exercised her franchise at Binta polling centre under Lohandiguda block. CEO Subrat Sahoo informed that intense monitoring was done for Chitrakot by-polls and in line with last VS and LS polls in state, at all the 22 polling centre monitoring was done using webcasting. CEO informed that on getting complaint from Polling Centre No. 14 by Dy. RO Chitrkot VS due action was taken and the RO kept on the Reserve was deputed.

In the same way the RO from polling centre no. 15 at Matanar was also replaced on health grounds. Similarly about the action about the conduct, CEO informed that in the polling at Chitrakot Bypoll, due to complaint against a police sub-inspector of ITBP was removed. In the by-poll of Chitrakot VS poll, the volunteers extended full help and extended help to senior citizens and Divyang voters visiting the polling Centres. CEO claimed that there was no untoward incident in any of the 22 polling centres and it was with due coordination of police force and security forces that polling
