Bhagalpur police files two FIRs; including on son of Union MoS

Bhagalpur police is said to have filed two separate FIRs in the communal clashes that erupted after procession that also included Arjit Shaswat, son of Union Minister of State Ashwini Kumar Choubey.

Police said that while Choubey’s son and eight others have been booked for rioting and inciting violence, a second FIR has been registered against some people of the area where the riot broke out.

It need be mentioned that the FIRs came about days after a procession of BJP, RSS and Bajrang Dal workers triggered communal clashes in Medini Chowk under Nathnagar police station.

The area is said to be a Muslim-dominated area in Bhagalpur.

It need be mentioned that the procession had been organised by the Bharatiya Navvarsh Jagran Samiti on the eve of the Hindu New Year on Saturday evening.

It was allege that the procession raised some provocative slogans which could have triggered the stone-pelting in the area.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar meanwhile promised swift and strict action against those who would indulge in disrupting communal harmony.
