Bill criminalizing ‘Triple Talaq’ to be tabled in Parliament; heres why
A bill on triple talaq will be tabled by Friday in the Parliament’s ongoing session.
This was informed by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar.
It need be mentioned that Union Cabinet had on December 15 gave its approval to the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights or Marriage) Bill 2017 aimed at making instant triple talaq void and illegal.
The decision follows the verdict of Supreme Court, which in August, had ruled that the practice of divorce through triple talaq among Muslims is “void”, “illegal” and “unconstitutional”.
The central government aims to make it a law to make triple talaq an offense.
This will also allow the victims to approach the police and the legal system for the redressal of their grievances and for action to be taken against the errant husband. >
