Bill introduced to remove Pakistan’s non-NATO ally status, this happened

Yet another major jolt for Pakistan as a bill to remove the country’s designation as a major non-NATO ally has been introduced in the US Congress.

The bill has been introduced by an influential Republican Congressman Andy Briggs, the bill also sets conditions for Pakistan if it is once again re-designated as a non-NATO ally status.

The resolution has been sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee for necessary action.

It also seeks certification from the Congress that Pakistan has taken steps to demonstrate its commitment to prevent the Haqqani Network from using any Pakistani territory as a safe haven.

The resolution asks the President to certify that Pakistan has shown progress in arresting and prosecuting Haqqani Network senior leaders and mid-level operatives.
