BJD suspends Jay Panda from party’s primary membership; what both sides claimed
In a major political development for the state of Odisha, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has suspended his Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda from the Biju Janata Dal’s primary membership.
The decision came, sources said, after last few years where the relations between the two may not have been best of times.
It need be mentioned that Panda is one of the most well known faces of the BJD and often figures in media debates.
The announcement of the suspension was made by party vice president Surya Patro. The reason for the suspension was alleged as Panda’s “anti -party activities”.
The BJD blames that Panda is unhappy over him being denied a nomination to the chairman of standing committee on Finance.
Patro claimed Panda had been refused a nomination to the committee’s chairmanship to avoid a conflict of interest.
Meanwhile, party MP Jay Panda posted his reaction on Twitter like this,”I’m shocked at this news. *Very very sad @Naveen_Odisha didn’t see thru the conspiracy agnst me led by an IAS ofcr now controlling th party *I vehemently deny the allegations agnst me, they are entirely false & baseless *I will pray to Jagannath for guidance b4 i respond further.”.
It remains to be seen as to where this leads the party and the state polity of Odisha.
