As was expected, it was an aggressive BJP chief Amit Shah who addressed his party workers at the Mayo road rally in Kolkata today.
He roared that he was there to ensure that Mamata Banerjee led government gets uprooted.
Taking on the Trinamool Congress chief on her opposition to the 40 lakh people left out of the National Register of Citizens or NRC in Assam, he said Bangladeshi immigrants are Mamata Banerjee’s votebank.
The BJP claims Mamata Banerjee’s sharp rhetoric against evicting illegal immigrants has much to do with her effort to nurture this vote bank to retain their support.
“All Mamata ji has done, is to object against the NRC. But NRC is the process to throw illegal immigrants out. Shouldn’t Bangladeshi immigrants be thrown out,” he asked.
He claimed that BJP thinks of country first and then comes the vote bank.
Shah announced that despite all opposition, the process of NRC will not be stalled.
It need be mentioned that BJP has been able to expand its foothold in the West Bengal.
The state is crucial to the BJP in the next Lok Sabha poll as well.
