BJP lawmaker targets Mayawati on alliance with SP, draws flak from opposition

As the united opposition rally made waves in the polity of India a day earlier, a BJP lawmaker’s statement on BSP supremo Mayawati is attracting flak.

The UP BJP woman leader goes on to mention Mayawati as a “a blot on womankind”.

Local sources said that the legislator from Mughalsarai is Sadhana Singh who said many things at a rally here that were offensive for the political rival.

The lawmaker’s comments were in apparent reference to the infamous episode when Ms Mayawati was assaulted by Samajwadi Party workers at a guest house in Lucknow in 1995 that triggered decades of animosity.

The BJP lawmaker’s comments drew a sharp reaction from Mayawati’s party which said that the language reflected the party’s “frustration with the SP-BSP alliance”.

Even SP leader Akhilesh Yadav condemned the remarks and said that it was “insult to the women of the country”.

The Congress, cold-shouldered by Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav for the alliance in UP, described the lawmaker’s comments as “disturbing”.
