With politics intensifying in the poll bound Karnataka, a BJP leader Sanjay Patil went on to get booked for what is being termed as hate speech.
The BJP leader is also party’s MLA from Karnataka’s Belagavi constituency.
The issue came to fore as a video of the hate speech where Patil is heard saying that the upcoming Assembly election in the state will be about Hindus and Muslims rather than basic amenities went viral on social media.
It could not be ascertained however, where the speech was made.
As per the video, the MLA is heard saying that this election is not about road, drainage or drinking water but about Hindu and Muslim religions.
To this, the audience appeared to cheer the leader.
He apparently is also heard saying that anything could be done to ensure that Ram Temple gets constructed in Ayodhya.
Belagavi was earlier known as Belgaum and is on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border.
It is said that the area has quite substantial presence of Muslims as well as Marathi-speaking Hindus.
