BJP questions decision to hold Civic Bodies elections through ballot papers

Raipur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday questioned the decision of state government to hold the upcoming Civic Bodies elections through ballot papers in place of the current practice of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). In a statement issued here, the Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dharmlal Kaushik termed the decision to be immoral and a black spot on the chapter of democracy. He said that the decision to hold elections through ballot papers in place of EVMs would be attempt to capture power of Civic Bodies through aggression. He said that the state government can still reconsider the decision in the interest of justice to hold elections through ballot papers as well as to conduct elections to the post of Mayor directly instead of through Corporators.
