The Bombay High Court on Thursday granted Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, bail three weeks after he was arrested in connection with a drug case onboard a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast on October 3.
Aryan Khan has been in jail since October 8. Aryan Khan has been denied bail twice before. The special anti-drugs court that denied him bail last week said he knew about charas hidden in his friend Arbaaz Merchant’s shoe, Arbaaz Merchant was also arrested along with Aryan and 18 others.
Opposing Aryan’s bail plea during the HC hearing, NCB counsel ASG Anil Singh had said applicant Aryan Khan is not a first-hand consumer but a regular consumer of drugs for the last two years.
Senior advocate and former attorney general of India Mukul Rohatgi, appearing on behalf of Aryan, had concluded his arguments on Tuesday. Rohatgi called his arrest “arbitrary”, adding that the NCB had made no recovery from the 23-year-old, nor conducted a medical examination to show consumption of any narcotic.
Megastar Shah Rukh Khan greeted the news of bail for his son, Aryan Khan arrested earlier this month in connection with the drugs on cruise case with “tears of joy”, said India’s former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, who represented him in the Bombay High Court. The actor had “given up all his professional activities”.
