British parliamentarian turned back from Delhi, MEA had this to say

Ministry of External Affairs said that the parliamentarian's activity in India was incompatible with the purpose of his visit as mentioned in his visa application

India blamed it on the inappropriate visa but there may have other reasons as well for the British parliamentarian Lord Alexander Carlile to be turned back.

The parliamentarian landed at the Delhi airport is also a legal consultant to jailed former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

New Delhi formally termed it to be an inappropriate visa issue.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the parliamentarian’s activity in India was incompatible with the purpose of his visit as mentioned in his visa application.

The decision is expected to go down well with the Sheikh Hasina government that hadn’t permitted the lawyer into the country.

It is now being said that since Lord Carlile had not been allowed to hold media briefing in Bangladesh, he planned to hold such an event in India.

He wanted to share the complexities in Khaleda Zia’s case to the international media community.

A high profile lawyer who held several judicial roles, Lord Carlile was appointed to the BNP leader’s legal team in March this year.

Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, has nearly three dozen criminal cases filed against her that the BNP insists, are part of a plot to keep her and her family out of politics.
