incident happened at around 2 am on the outskirts of Salem.

In a major accident, as many as seven people including two women were killed and 37 more suffered injuries when two buses collided head-on on the Salem-Bengaluru National Highway in Tamil Nadu.

The accident took place on Saturday.

The incident happened at around 2 am on the outskirts of Salem.

Local reports suggest that it was when a speeding bus heading towards Krishnagiri brushed against a mini-van parked on the national highway before colliding head-on with another bus coming from the opposite direction.

Police have confirmed the mishap.

Police seem to believe that the speeding bus heading towards Dharmapuri with over 40 passengers was trying to avoid a stationary lorry when the driver lost control and collided with an Omni bus heading towards Palakkad from Bengaluru.

That was when the Omni bus turned turtle in the impact of the accident
