Canadian premiere on India visit; speculations on ‘snubbing’ continues
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is visiting India along with his family that includes wife and three children but the narrative now has changed to whether the Indian government is deliberately not engaging him.
There are many in Canadian media as well as many advocacy groups as well who are claiming that not only the Canadian Prime Minister has been snubbed, the reason could very well be the participation of his in various Khalistan events.
Many Canadian and other international media outlets have openly compared to how the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hugged the other international leaders but this time around fell short to even accompany the visiting dignitary and his family to tour Gujarat, his home state.
However, Canadian PM Trudeau has reportedly received a less-than-warm welcome on his visit to India, at least according to some sections of the media.
However, the Indian government sources have strongly rejected the speculation.
The speculation is that a snub may have been triggered out of rising Sikh radicalism in Canada.
Indian government sources have also expressed surprise over the Canadian side preferring to schedule Trudeau’s official engagements in Delhi at the fag end of the tour.
There has been none yet in the case of the Canadian PM. Trudeau, along with his wife and three children, landed in New Delhi on Saturday.
Trudeau was received at the airport by junior agriculture minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Its been pointed out that on official state visits to India, PM Modi personally greets and welcomes the Israeli PM, UAE Crown Prince, and US President.
This was noticed and highlighted by Canadian author and columnist Candice Malcolm.
Whats all the more stark is that even Congress appears to be supportive of central government’s viewpoint.
Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said the Canadian PM was an honoured guest, but there was also the issue of sensitivities in Punjab. >
