Cauvery protests continues in Tamil Nadu; blame central govt

DMK leader M.K. Stalin claimed the shutdown as a grand success

With the Cauvery Management Board still not constituted, the Tamil Nadu politics continues to boil.

It was in Trichy that the protesting farmers partially buried themselves in sand on banks of Cauvery river in support of their demands.

This comes after DMK on Thursday had called a shutdown over the central government’s failure to set up the Board.

DMK leader M.K. Stalin claimed the shutdown as a grand success with lakhs courting arrest.

As part of the shutdown strike Stalin led a massive procession comprising members from his party and his allies on the arterial Anna Salai to Marina Beach here affecting traffic flow.

Hundreds of protesters belonging to DMK, Congress, CPI, CPI-M, MDMK, VCK and farmers were also taken into police custody across the state.

The Central government has so far failed to set up the Cauvery Management Board within six weeks of the apex court’s February 16 order and the deadline ended on March 29.
